Crimson Moon Known Issues: Crashes, Keybinds, Saves

The official list (1 September 2026)

Transcribed from ProbablyMonsters’ Known Issues article, which says Hotfix 1.0.1 is “planned to address these issues alongside a number of additional stability, UI, audio, and localization fixes”.

Stability and performance

  • Crashes during combat and general gameplay, “including crashes related to ray tracing and specific encounters”.
  • A crash for the host when entering the second arena in Ramshorn Keep.
  • Shader compilation stuttering for some players on the Epic Games Store version.

Multiplayer and co-op

  • An incorrect “Player has left the session” message.
  • Clients freezing or disconnecting in Moore Manor.
  • Accepting an invite can leave the joining player stuck on the title screen.
  • Mission progress not always awarded to the host in co-op.

Saves and accounts

  • An account issue that can stop the Main Menu loading.
  • Saves not syncing between Steam and Steam Deck on the same account.
  • Existing save data can be lost when updating the game — flagged “high-priority”, fix in the upcoming hotfix.

UI and HUD

  • Duplicate boss health bars; XP shown with decimals; repeated HUD notifications; Mission Failed screen issues; Friends List elements broken on PS5 and Epic; the pickup area around dropped loot is larger than intended.

Bosses

  • Felwyl’s death sequence can be skipped with certain attacks.
  • An extra health bar during the Tyrigon encounter.

Keybinding and mouse sensitivity

Not on the list above because it is not a bug — the options simply do not exist at launch. The same-day Steam post “An Update on PC Keybinding” commits to “a rapid first implementation of keybinding support” shipping this week (week of 1 September 2026), warns it “may have some bugs”, and promises follow-up fixes and an exact date once confirmed. A preview screenshot of the new options menu is in the post.

Until then the only workaround is the one dozens of Steam reviews mention: play on a controller.

Crashes: what you can try now

The developer names ray tracing as one crash cause, so turning ray tracing off in the graphics settings is the obvious interim step — that is our inference from the list, not an official instruction. The “Crashing at 0% Compiling Shaders Screen” forum thread matches the Epic shader-stutter entry; letting the first compile finish and verifying files are the usual steps, again unofficial. For anything reproducible, the team asks for reports through the ProbablyMonsters support site rather than the forums.

Ultrawide and FOV

Two Steam forum threads (“Ultrawide Field of View Fix”, “To all Ultrawide users”) and several reviews describe the game cropping vertically on 21:9 displays with no FOV slider, and the lock-on camera angling down. Neither ultrawide nor FOV is on the Known Issues list as of 2 September 2026. Community workarounds circulate in those threads; we have not verified any and will link an official fix if one is published.

Save loss: protect yourself before Hotfix 1.0.1

Because the developer confirms saves can be lost on update, the sensible step until the hotfix lands is to back up the save folder before letting Steam apply a patch. The exact save path has not been published by ProbablyMonsters; if you know it, back it up manually. Steam Cloud is enabled for the game (it is in the store page’s feature list), which may or may not cover the bug — the article does not say.

Co-op progression

The Known Issues entry “mission progress may not always be correctly awarded to the host” is narrower than what players report: the top Steam review says the joining player’s run progress does not advance at all (“they can only start on Mission 1”). Read together with the account article — progress and entitlements follow a linked ProbablyMonsters Account — this looks like a design decision plus a bug, but we cannot confirm which part is which. More on the co-op page.

Not bugs, but often reported as bugs

  • Gear comes home weaker. Gated loot returns “in a weaker, purified form” and the Armory copy is Common tier — intended. See loadout and purification.
  • Loadout locked mid-run. Intended; the station reopens when the run ends.
  • Difficulty cannot be lowered mid-run. Intended; it locks until the final boss.
